Officials Target Youth Driver Cellphone Use

October 17, 2016–U.S. government officials today kicked off National Teen Driver Safety Week by calling on teens to put down their cellphones while driving, and not to engage in other distracting or unsafe activities.  “We know that 94 percent of all car crashes are caused by human choice or error,” said Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “Nearly 3,000 teens were involved in deadly vehicle crashes last year. We have to do better, and as parents we should all model, teach, and enforce good driving habits for our young drivers.”
