Colorado to Issue FirstNet RFP

March 14, 2017–The state of Colorado plans to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to inform it of its options as it decides whether to have the First Responder Network Authority’s (FirstNet) partner build a radio access network in the state. “The purpose of the RFP is to develop an alternative plan so that we have a comprehensive understanding of what the state’s options are for the implementation of the National Public Safety Broadband Network,” Brian Shepherd, Colorado’s broadband program manager and the state’s FirstNet single point of contact, told TRDaily today. “Given the structure of the statute we believe having both options fully vetted will allow the Governor and public safety leaders to make the a well informed decision as to what is best for the first responders of Colorado.”  The plans call for the state to issue the RFP later this month or early next month.
