In remarks at the Telecommunications Industry Association Spring Policy Summit, FCC Office of Engineering and Technology Chief Julie Knapp said that “there’s a lot of work” going on at the agency regarding the 5.9 gigahertz band and planned testing to determine whether unlicensed devices can share the 5.9 GHz band with DSRC (dedicated short-range communications) for vehicle-to-vehicle technologies. There might be action on sharing rules “this year if we can get that far,” he added. He also said the FCC might deal with testing lab accreditation this summer and issue a separate notice of proposed rulemaking on equipment authorization.
