OEC Outreach Clips: GAO Finds Problems with Federal LMR Procurements, Source Mission Critical Communications

A new federal survey found federal agencies buy most equipment from the same vendor, use proprietary features that hinder interoperability and could save money by using a federal spending management initiative. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) surveyed federal agencies that use LMR equipment to meet their core missions. More than two-thirds of the 57 agencies that GAO surveyed reported using equipment from the same manufacturer because, for example, they believe doing so will help ensure compatibility of new LMR equipment with existing system requirements.
