People in Jefferson County can now contact first responders with just a text message. The county officially launched a text-to-911 system Monday. “We’ve had some training on it, so they are getting to use it, so they know what they’re doing when they get a real 911 text,” said Jefferson County Sheriff Craig Doolittle. Doolittle says the system is designed for emergencies where calling 911 could put someone in danger. “A home invasion, an active shooter situation or a domestic violence situation, something like that, where you don’t want to make the noise of calling,” he said.
