The Sheboygan Police Department plans to make communication between officers more private by encrypting its radio channel, which would render scanners used by the public unable to listen in. The change comes as the entire county public safety infrastructure prepares to switch from an analog radio system to a digital system, which makes encrypting traffic easier and more cost effective. Currently, the Sheboygan Police Department is the only department in the county considering encrypting their main communication channel.
