The Land Mobile Communications Council has endorsed a recent filing by the National Public Safety Telecommunications Council that expressed concern that the FCC could inadvertently ban public safety airborne communications if it adopts rules it proposed in a proceeding in which it sought comment on whether to permit airlines to allow passengers to use voice communications above 10,000 feet (TRDaily, July 6).
In a filing in WT docket 13-301, NPSTC urged the Commission to ensure that any changes to its section 90.423 rules apply only to commercial specialized mobile radio (SMR) operations and not public safety operations. The LMCC said in a filing yesterday in WT docket 13-301 that it supports the NPSTC submission. “The LMCC urges the FCC to ensure that any amendments to Section 90.423 apply only to broadband SMR operations licensed under Part 90 of the rules,” it said. “The current provisions of Rule Section 90.423, Operation on Board Aircraft, paragraphs (a) through (d) should be maintained for all other Part 90 licensees whose systems require airborne operations.”
