Division Dismisses Petition to Allow TIS Operations in FM Band

April 17, 2017–The Policy and Licensing Division of the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau has dismissed a joint petition by Robert Coyle Jr. and Claude Parker to establish a rulemaking proceeding on allowing public safety pool–eligible entities to operate their travelers’ information systems (TIS) on FM Channel 200 (87.9 megahertz) on a primary basis.  TIS are currently authorized “to transmit noncommercial, travel-related information over AM band frequencies to motorists on a localized basis,” the division noted in an order adopted today.  “We conclude that Petitioners have not made a sufficient showing to support the commencement of a rulemaking at this time. We therefore dismiss the Petition,” the division said.
