Senate Commerce Hearing to Focus on Broadband Deployment Barriers

April 28, 2017–The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee has scheduled a May 3 hearing on reducing barriers to broadband infrastructure deployment, especially in rural areas, and on encouraging private investment in next-generation telecom services.

Scheduled witnesses include Patricia Cooper, vice president–satellite government affairs at SpaceX; Larry Downes, project director for the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy; Brian Hendricks, head of technology policy and public affairs for the Americas region at Nokia Corp.; Gary Resnick, mayor of Wilton Manors, Fla.; and Arizona state Rep. Jeff Weninger.  The hearing is slated to begin at 10 a.m. in Room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building.
