April 28, 2017–Dana Boente, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who has been the acting deputy attorney general since Jan. 30, is now the acting assistant attorney general for the Justice Department’s National Security Division, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced today. Mr. Boente succeeds Mary McCord, the principal deputy assistant attorney general who has been the acting assistant attorney general for the National Security Division but who recently announced she is leaving in May. Mr. Boente has been with the Justice Department since 1984, serving in the Tax Division and in various U.S. attorney offices around the country.
