April 17, 2017–The wireless industry has discussed with the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau “providing, on a voluntary and confidential basis, certain information and data involving Test Bed results and outdoor location accuracy assessments to assist the Bureau’s evaluation of 9-1-1 location accuracy solutions in use by the carriers over time,” according to an ex parte filing in PS docket 07-114 reporting on a recent conversation with bureau officials.

In the ex parte filing in PS docket 07-114, CTIA said that “the parties discussed the Bureau’s interest in evaluating the nationwide wireless carriers 9-1-1 location accuracy performance under the FCC’s Fourth Report & Order on Wireless 9-1-1 Location Accuracy. The nationwide wireless carriers discussed providing, on a voluntary and confidential basis, certain information and data involving Test Bed results and outdoor location accuracy assessments to assist the Bureau’s evaluation of 9-1-1 location accuracy solutions in use by the carriers over time. The parties agreed to continue discussions to identify a course of action to meet the Bureau’s goals. In addition, CTIA and the nationwide wireless carriers reiterated their request that the Bureau modify the ‘yield’ instructions to the FCC’s Live Call Data form.” —Paul Kirby, paul.kirby@wolterskluwer.com
