March 6, 2017–FCC Chairman Ajit Pai met with President Trump this afternoon in the Oval Office. The meeting was closed to the press, but an FCC spokesman said that “[n]o proceedings pending at the FCC were discussed.” The spokesman described the meeting as “warm” and added that the Chairman and the President “reconnected for the first time since Chairman Pai was elevated to head the FCC.” Former FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler was criticized by Republican members of Congress for changing his approach to the agency’s open Internet proceeding in the wake of White House advocacy, including a public video message by President Obama advocating reclassifying broadband Internet access services as telecommunications services subject to common carrier regulation under Title II of the Communications Act (TRDaily, Nov. 10, 2014).
