The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau released a public notice today noting that First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) opt-out notifications are due Dec. 28. “On September 29, 2017, FirstNet notified the Commission that 52 states and territories received the required statutory notice, commencing the 90-day opt-out decisional period for those states and territories,” the bureau noted in a public notice in PS docket 16-269. “Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa did not receive notice from FirstNet, and accordingly their 90-day decision period has not been triggered. We will announce the decision period for these territories by future Public Notice after FirstNet provides the required statutory notice to each territory and informs the Bureau it has done so.” Puerto Rico has already opted in to the network. FirstNet and AT&T, Inc., are still in discussions with Guam, American Samoa, and the Mariana Islands, which did not receive initial plans in June or final plans earlier this month.
