National 911 Program Releases Video on Benefits of NG911: Next Generation (NG) 911 is a complex issue and its success requires the support and collaboration of not just the 911 community, but of first responders, legislators, and the public.  The National 911 Program has released a short video that explains the benefits of NG911 for all of these audiences.  The video is free and available for use at conferences, in presentations, in one-on-one meetings or at town hall gatherings. The 3-minute animated video was developed to serve as a discussion catalyst, and includes a variety of issues for continued discussion, such as technical standards, governance, and potential legislative changes.  “The national 911 community identified the need for a tool that provides a quick, non-technical review of NG911, that could be used to begin conversation about a particular aspect of transition,” said Laurie Flaherty with the National 911 Program.  “We hope that this video will meet that need.  It can be used to spur discussion on a number of NG911 implementation issues in states, counties and cities, and it’s supported by other NG911 resources the National 911 Program has developed.”

The National 911 Program provides federal leadership to support and promote optimal 911 services.  It was created by Congress to provide information to improve the 911 system and to coordinate information sharing and activities among federal agencies and 911 stakeholders.   The program fulfills this mission by developing and distributing a variety of tools and resources for the national 911 community.  The National 911 Program is housed within the Office of Emergency Medical Services at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
