June 1, 2017–The work of the House communications and technology subcommittee has taken a new approach to dividing up its workflows, assigning specific issues areas to the leadership of various members, subcommittee Chairman Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.) explained during an interview for C-SPAN’s “The Communicators” program that aired May 27.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.) will head up efforts related to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration “and looking at U.S. cyber comm,” Chairman Blackburn said.  Rep. Bill Flores (R., Texas) will work on privacy efforts, and Rep. Billy Long (R., Mo.) will head up work on media ownership issues.

As previously reported, Rep. Bill Johnson (R., Ohio) will focus on broadband expansion (TR Daily, March 28); Rep. Susan Brooks (R., Ind.) will head up work on enhanced 911 and the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) (TR Daily, March 30); subcommittee Vice Chairman Leonard Lance (R., N.J.) will take the lead on encryption (TR Daily, Feb. 10), along with new subcommittee member Mimi Walters (R., Calif.), Chairman Blackburn said.
