December 9, 2016–The Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) program has announced the availability of up to $30 million in funds as part of its Public Safety Innovation Accelerator Program to advance research, development, and testing of key broadband technologies useful to public safety agencies.

The PSCR says that it expects to award up to $30 million between fiscal years 2017 and 2019 in amounts from $10,000 to $1 million per year.  Both grants and cooperative agreements will be considered.

The six specific technology areas where the PSCR wants the research conducted are “mission critical voice; location based services (LBS); public safety analytics; communication demand modeling; research and prototyping platforms; and resilient systems.”

Applications are due Feb. 28 at Grants.gov. The PSCR is a joint initiative of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. —Paul Kirby, paul.kirby@wolterskluwer.com
